Onkyo TX-8500 Amp Repair Set Board Receiver Recap Transistor Kit Complete!
Up for sale here is this amplifier board rebuild set for an Onkyo TX-8500. This is all the parts you need to rebuild ONE Onkyo TX-8500 amplifier board, identified as "NADA-405" in the service manual. There are TWO amplifier boards in a TX-8500, so if you need to rebuild both amp boards, set the quantity to 2 when you buy. This kit is for the original TX-8500, the Mark 1. It is not for the Mark II. Over time the amp boards start developing issues with transistors and capacitors, and sometimes completely blow up. The old parts are weak and failing. We will make them new again! This kit includes all 6 capacitors, replacements for all 12 transistors, 2 zener diodes, 2 trimmers, a small piece of clear tubing, and a small piece of heat-shrink tubing. It does NOT include any resistors or any output transistors. The correct replacement output transistors are MJ21195G (replaces 2SB554) and MJ21196G (replaces 2SD424). I have new OnSemi MJ21195G/MJ21196G outputs listed here if you need them. Each amp board uses 4 (2 pairs), and you should replace all 4 if you are replacing any. Please don't buy any of the fake "Made in Japan" output transistors on eBay--those are counterfeit and will blow up. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts. The capacitors are Nichicon PW and Nichicon KL caps at the correct uf and the same or higher voltage ratings and the transistors and diodes are Fairchild/Onsemi and are the correct subs for the original transistors/diodes. These are not cheap Made in China parts, they are extremely high-quality and they are what I use when I rebuild vintage gear. Frankly, "recapping" is a waste of time if you're not going to replace the transistors as well. A lot of times the transistors age worse than the caps, so you should definitely change out the transistors while you're in there. If you're having amp board issues, it's very likely to be a transistor issue. This kit includes a matched pair of KSC1845 transistors to replace the 2SC1583 dual transistor, which is the cause of high DC offset on many TX-8500s. I will include a surprisingly well-written four-page instruction set, but this is a pretty complicated repair, so if you don't have much experience with this, buy the kit and take it to a professional. You should definitely have a fair amount of soldering experience and have a decent soldering iron, a dim-bulb tester, and heat-sink compound, as well as the usual tools.
